Part 1:

a)  Poetry analysis

·        Answer the following set of questions

The speakers and the situation

  • Who are the speakers? What kind of people are the speakers?
  • What is the occasion?
  • Summarize the events of the poem.
  • Paraphrase the poem.

 

b)  Answer the following set of questions

 

Imagery and Symbolism,

1.               Discuss the imagery of the poem. What kinds of imagery are used?

2.               Point out examples of metaphor, simile, personification, and metonymy and explain their appropriateness.

3.               Point out and explain any symbols. If the poem is allegorical, explain the allegory.

4.               Point out and explain examples of paradox, overstatement, understatement, and irony. What is their function?

5.               Point out and explain any allusions. What is their function?

 

Part 2: In this part of the activity, you are asked to do ONE the following tasks:

 

(a) Criticize and evaluate the poem.

 

(b) Create a Power Point Presentation that is connected to the theme of the poem (The generation gap, mother-son relationship, or other). You may want to use photographs, drawings, music, sound effects, etc. The choice is yours.

 

(c) Create a photo story or a video clip. Upload it to You Tube (Remember: Think before you Post! - see the clip)

 

(d) Talk to your teacher and suggest a suitable alternative.
